The Way Relief Effort

In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

The Way Relief Effort was developed in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. Our church wanted to do more than just help the affected people with their short-term needs. We wanted to create a program that would meet the immediate need, but also strengthen Christ’s Church.

To that goal, we have partnered with churches in Poplarville, Mississippi. Working with local churches gives us several advantages:

  • It allows us to build relationships with fellow believers and obey Christ’s commandment found in John 13:34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another”.
  • It gives us an opportunity to show Christ’s love and witness to non-believers.
  • It gives us the ability to help build relationships among the community members.
  • It gives us direct insight into the timely needs of the community.
  • It assures that we are being responsible for the effective use of donations we receive.

The following is our mission statement.

Our purpose is to bring glory and praise to Jesus Christ by providing relief efforts for a specific community that has been affected by a tragic circumstance. Our purpose is not to be or become a fund raising organization, but rather to be the physical hand that offers a “cool drink” to the thirsty, “food” for the hungry and “clothes” to the naked in the name of Christ.

Our efforts will be coordinated through churches in the affected community. By coordinating our relief efforts through those churches, we will be helping build relationships between Christians and their community that can continue long after the circumstance has been resolved.

Additionally we are looking to partner with other churches in the Brownsburg area. The rebuilding effort from the devastation left by the hurricane will take several months. We want to be able to continually send teams of workers to Poplarville.

If you or your church is interested in partnering with us, please send an email to theway@biblechurchofbrownsburg.org.

Please check this web site for pictures from past trips. We will also be posting a schedule of future trips very soon.
